Those who know Jacob Bryant and his music will tell you that what you see is what you get. He’s unapologetically honest, telling stories through his music of past struggles with depression, addiction and loss. Besides the substance and bona fide musicianship, he also delivers a message of perseverance and faith that resonates with fans.
We can all identify with those values, knowing that’s what helps overcome life’s challenges, big and small. Jacob’s fans have reacted strongly to his music both in the States and UK. His first full-length album, titled “Practice What I Preach,” debuted No. 1 on the iTunes country chart and No. 8 on the UK country chart. The single “Pour Whiskey on My Grave” reached No. 1 on the UK rock chart and has been viewed nearly 9 million times on YouTube. He played in front of NRA members in Indianapolis in 2019, and the crowd loved him so much that NRA brought him back to celebrate our organization’s 150th anniversary in Houston this year. NRA Country’s Lisa Supernaugh grabbed a couple of minutes of Jacob’s time at Annual Meetings to ask him a few questions.
LS: Who taught you how to shoot? JB: My dad taught me to shoot with my great-grandfather’s Stevens’ Long Tom 12-gauge shotgun. It put me on my ass, but it was awesome all at the same time! But my first gun will always be my favorite: a Marlin 30-30 lever-action gold trigger.
LS: You’ve seen all corners of this country while on tour. What makes you proud of our country? JB: The fact that I get to do what I love for a living makes me proud to be an American. Dream on, dreamers!
LS: What can fans expect from Jacob Bryant in the future? JB: We have been in the studio working on new music and have tracked 30 great songs. Now we have to somehow narrow it down to 12 to 13 songs to pick for an album that will hopefully be released in early 2022. I’m super stoked about this new stuff coming down the pipe.
